Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105
Rest upon scripture. When your eyes glide over the words in the Bible, don’t miss what they are really saying. Verses we have heard our entire lives such as Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not unto your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path” are so common that, even after we have heard them many times, we take them lightly and forget how powerful they are. Think about His promises. God is our constant rock. He is so faithful and so perfect that we can trust Him with our WHOLE hearts. He PROMISES to direct our path in this life. WOW… who or what else can say that? This Christmas, as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Savior and Lord, focus on how powerful our loving our God is. John 1:2 says “He was in the beginning with God.” The text goes on to explain that Jesus was always with God since the very beginning of time. On Christmas day, God delivered our savior -- not as a king, but as a baby in a humble manger. Let us remember that Jesus was born of a virgin so that He could be a perfect and sin-free sacrifice for our sins. John 1:14 continues to tell us that, “The Word (Jesus) became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as the only begotten son of the Father, full of grace and truth” Jesus left the perfect and indescribably Heaven, with His Beloved father, to come down to earth as a human and die for each and every one of us. Let us remember what Jesus willingly did for us when He left heaven, came to earth, humbled Himself and became a servant to the undeserving. He was beaten severely. He took all of our sins upon Himself. How can we glorify the Father and show that we glorify His word? This Christmas let’s focus on Almighty God and His Son. Let’s follow Jesus’ example and be servants. Let us give to our brothers and sisters and put them before ourselves like the bible instructs us to do. There are many things we can do this Christmas that are not difficult at all and that could make someone’s day. Make someone who is mean to you a Christmas card, feed the homeless, give old clothes you never even use to the needy, go Christmas caroling, visit nursing homes, pray for missionaries, tell your mom or dad how much they mean to you, etc. God willingly paid a high price for you. Remember that He promises that you can trust Him. He promises to guide your life if you let Him. Let Him do that as you spread some love this Christmas for Him. Let Jesus’ Word be the lamp to your feet (Psalm 119:105) and direct your path as you shine your light for Jesus everywhere you go.Sarah Tincher's Devotional Written for Her FCA Group 12-19-06
