Sarah's Devotional Sent To Her School's Chapter of The Fellowship of Christian Athletes November 20, 2006

His heart was failing as he lay in the hospital bed. He thought he was a healthy man until he was driving home one night and realized that he was having several chest pains. He called 911 and was taken to the hospital. As he lay there he said he felt tremendous peace flow over him.  He told friends that he could feel God saying, “if you die, it’s alright. You will come home to me in heaven. And if you live, it will be alright too. Either way, it’s going to be alright.” Sunday morning, as I listened to the preacher talk about his near death experience, tears came to my eyes. He asked us, “If you were the one in that hospital bed - about to possibly die, would you be alright with the life you lived.  Would you feel God’s peace?”

My question for you is … “Where are you in your walk with God?” How strong is your faith? Are you happy with the way things are going in your relationship with our Lord? What are some things hindering you from getting closer to God? If you were to die tomorrow night, would you feel good about the legacy you would leave -- the lives you touched? If your answer is unclear, take the time this week to put away distractions and study God’s word. Realize that this life is short. Live it for your creator. When storms come in your life, realize that your best friend won’t always have the right answers… your parents wont always have all the right answers… but God ALWAYS has ALL the right answers. Seek Him first. Matthew 6:33 says, But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” So look to God for help in times of trouble. The Word of God says to seek Him first and everything else will be fall into place. Look to the one who is unchanging and perfect -- the one who never leaves you. Lay all your problems at the foot of the cross this week. Give them to Jesus. Do as Philippians 5 and 6 tell us, “In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.”
