Jesus

Savior, Healer, Cross, Crucifixion, Blood, Death, and Eternal Life. I would guess that you have heard these terms before. They all relate to one man—Jesus Christ. You might even celebrate His birthday on Christmas. You might also celebrate how he rose again on Easter after dying. Maybe you know Him personally. Maybe you go to church to learn about Him. The fact is that America seems to be completely confused about Jesus. People today do not seem to understand who He really is and what He really did while on earth. There are many misconceptions, theories, assumptions, rumors, and ideas about Jesus Christ. I am here to clear those up for you. I am here to tell you who He really is, based on my personal experience and the Holy Bible. I am here to inform you about Jesus Christ, the Son of God, according to Christianity, by discussing biblical history about why God sent Jesus, His life on earth, and his effect in people’s lives today,. You will benefit from this speech because you will know about who Jesus is.  You hear His name mocked, made fun of, not believed in, worshipped, sung about, prayed to, talked about, and so on. It is always good to know the person you hear about frequently, or maybe claim to believe in. Religion is part of our world. Christianity, a part of the religious world, is said to be growing fast. In his book “World Religion & Cults”, Bruce Bickel tells us that nearly two billion people call themselves Christians. I find it hard to believe that two billion people really live out their “faith” and understand who it is all about. I am going to inform you that it is “all” about Jesus.

In the book of Genesis in the Bible, we are told that this entire world started with God. Jesus was with God, since the beginning. John 1:1-2 tells us this by saying, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. HE was with God in the beginning.” In a matter of days, God created the entire universe and everything in it. In the first chapter of Genesis, God created the first man and women, Adam and Eve. The Bible suggests that God intended for Adam and Eve to have wonderful lives. God did not have to create them or us, but He wanted to because He had so much love to give. Adam and Eve did not obey God. They sinned against Him. Therefore, we are all sinners because of two people in the very beginning of time who messed up. There’s the problem. God cannot look upon sin because He is so perfect and so pure. Something had to pay for our sin in order for us to be right with God. After Adam and Eve went against God, He could have taken everything He created away. He could have just forgotten about us. Instead He made a bridge between us and Himself. He sent His only son, who is equal in perfection to Him according to John 5:18, to die on a cross while taking upon Him all the sins of the world. The bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:21; that God gave his son Jesus, who knew no sin, to die for our sins, so that we might become right with God. Jesus willingly obeyed. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. We no longer have to earn our way to Heaven; the Bible tells us in Ephesians 2:8-9 that we our saved by grace alone. Only by trusting in Jesus as our savior do we inherit the gift of eternal life. That is how much He loved us.

Now that you understand why God had to send His only son to die for us, I want to inform you of the life which He lived. What does your life say about you? The way we live says a tremendous amount about the person who we are. The four Gospels in the Bible include Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Each individual Gospel proclaims the same exact message, but from different perspectives. The message is of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. The book of Matthew lists several miraculous events that Jesus performed. He cleansed a leper, healed a servant, rebuked the winds and sea, delivered demons out of people, raised a girl from the dead, gave two blind men sight, made a mute speak again, and more. Jesus was often called Rabbi which is a Jewish term for “teacher”. He was often advising people about life lessons. He is the God Almighty’s son, but yet He was surprisingly a humble and kind servant, and because of that, many people did not believe that He was the real Messiah/”Son of God”. The bible says that He literally came to be a servant and help people. He preached nothing but love, peace, and forgiveness.

In transition, Jesus is still actively involved in many lives today. He came to earth more than two thousand years ago. Yet His story has never died. Many reject Him, but many still follow Him today. There are thousands of missionaries, camps, books, bible studies, and churches around the world that are dedicated to saving souls for Jesus Christ. It is said in John 10:10 that thieves come only to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came so that we could have life, and have it to the full. Jesus defines the word “Christian”. Being a Christian is not about going to church and it is not about rules. It is all about a personal relationship with the one who loved us enough to die for us. It is about Jesus. Nearly one billion people claim to have that personal relationship with Jesus Christ. To many people, He is still the same healer, peacemaker, protector, forgiver, lover, and savior that He was nearly two thousand years ago.

In conclusion, Jesus Christ is the base of Christianity. He is the one who made us right with God. He is the one who offers eternal life by calling upon His name. He is the reason there is a church on every corner. The biblical facts, His life on earth, and His involvement in people’s lives still today, all are a testimony to who He is. Doesn’t this sound like someone you would like to know personally?
